What is not on site?
The Porch is an outdoor venue on a working farm. These are the things people most often assume a venue has, and we would rather say now than on the day.
- No commercial kitchen. Caterers work from the deck and their own equipment; tell your caterer in advance. Self-catering and potlucks are welcome, and food trucks work with advance notice.
- No indoor backup space. For shoulder-season and winter dates we strongly recommend budgeting for a tent from a Portland-area rental company. We will tell you what fits the space and coordinate delivery access.
- No permanent indoor restroom for guests, and no bridal suite or getting-ready space. Most couples arrive ready or use a nearby hotel or Airbnb.
- No heaters included. Patio heaters are available through rental companies for cool-season dates; ask and we will size it for you.
- No venue Wi-Fi. Cell service is generally usable. Vendors who need connectivity should bring a hotspot.
- No alcohol. The Porch is an alcohol-free venue, which also means you can skip liquor liability on your event policy.
A real working farm.
The Porch sits on a genuine working farm. You may hear the occasional dog from our boarding kennel, animals in the pasture, and light road noise from Highway 212 nearby. We schedule quiet hours around events wherever possible. If you want horses grazing beside your celebration and an honest countryside setting rather than a soundstage, this is your place.
Your event, your responsibility.
The Porch is a working farm with animals, a pond, and a raised deck. Renters assume responsibility for themselves, their guests, and their vendors during the rental, and carry their own event liability insurance. We are not responsible for personal property brought onto the property. Full terms are in your rental agreement.
Season
Open year-round, Sunday through Friday. The Porch is closed Saturdays. Ask about cool-season setups.
Quiet hours
Amplified music ends at 10 pm. Acoustic music welcome anytime during your rental.
Alcohol
The Porch is an alcohol-free venue. Great lemonade encouraged.
Location
Boring, Oregon, about 30 minutes from Portland. Exact address shared once your date is confirmed.
Vendors
Bring the caterer, florist, and photographer you love. No required vendor list.
Setup
Your rental window includes setup and teardown time. Multi-day quotes available.
Event insurance
A one-day event liability policy naming The Porch as additional insured is required for weddings and events over 25 guests. Most run $75 to $200 and take about 20 minutes to buy online.
Access
The deck is raised, with steps. Tell us in your inquiry if you have guests with mobility needs and we will discuss access options honestly before you book.
Children and pets
Children are welcome and should be supervised near the pond. Pets: ask first, since loose dogs and livestock are a bad mix.
When is the best time of year?
June through September is the reliable dry stretch in the Willamette Valley. Late September evenings are the most beautiful and the least booked.
- Summer heat. Afternoons commonly reach the upper 80s and can top 95. Evening events starting after 5 pm are more comfortable and photograph better.
- Rain. There is no indoor backup, so for shoulder-season and winter dates budget for a tent, and we will talk it through before you book. The covered deck and the tree line hold up well for portraits in soft grey light.
- Sunset. Ranges from about 4:30 pm in December to about 9 pm in late June. The string lights carry the deck after dark year-round. The hour before sunset is the best light on the property.
- Wildfire smoke. Late August and early September occasionally bring smoke to the region. It is unpredictable and not grounds for a venue refund, so consider event insurance for peak-smoke-season dates.
What will you hear?
Sometimes the highway, possibly the dogs, and always the animals. We are upfront about all three so nobody is surprised on the day.
- We are roughly 2,000 feet from Highway 212, and traffic is occasionally audible.
- We operate a boarding kennel on the property. We schedule quiet periods around events where we can.
- Horses, goats, sheep, and chickens live here. They are part of what makes the place, and the honest tradeoff of a real farm setting.
- It is outdoors in Oregon: summer evenings are generally mild, but citronella and a few bug-spray stations are worth planning for.
- This is a rural road. Amplified sound is off at 10 pm, and we ask guests to keep it neighborly on arrival and departure.

Photos with the horses

Better with kids than any posed backdrop. Ask and we will bring them out.
Lavender field portraits
Available when the lavender is in bloom, typically early summer. Ask about timing when you inquire.
